The Neighborhood Preservation Coalition of New York State issued the following statement in response to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s 2016 State of the State address:

NPCNYS is encouraged by Governor Cuomo’s $20 billion housing plan for New York State and believes it is a strong start in solving our housing issues. “The Governor’s plan to create and preserve 100,000 units of affordable housing across all of New York State shows a commitment to helping low-and moderate-income individuals and families obtain access to safe, decent, and healthy housing,” said Paula Gilbert, Executive Director of NPCNYS.  “We know that neighborhood preservation companies raise $43 for their communities for every preservation dollar appropriated, so ensuring that the Neighborhood Preservation Program is adequately funded would not only help individuals and families obtain housing, it would maximize the impact of the Governor’s economic development priorities and initiatives,” said Gilbert. Governor Cuomo said in his address that “now the moment to maximize the progress we have made,” and NPCNYS and its members, from Long Island to Buffalo, stand ready to help revitalize their communities.
