2024 Advocacy

WE NEED YOUR VOICE!

Our New York State Senators and Assembly Members need to know the value of our NPCs and how we faithfully serve our neighborhoods and their people throughout the State.

Funding for the Neighborhood Preservation Program (NPP) is NOT guaranteed.  EVERY year, our funding amount is determined through the New York State budget.

Our successful advocacy last year, resulting in the historic increase of NPP funding, is a testament to the fact that when we come together with a united voice, when we share our stories and concerns, we can make a difference.

Securing Critical NPP Funding in 2024 Budget:

NPP Funding Relies on Legislature Holding Firm during Negotiations

Last week, both chambers introduced their one-house budget bills, which effectively addressed the notable deficit proposed in the Governor’s budget.

While the Assembly’s appropriation mirrored last year’s amount at $17.63M, the Senate proposed a nearly identical amount at $17.5M. These figures represent a significant increase over the amount proposed by the Executive Budget, which stood at $12.83M.

One notable difference between the two bills is the specifics of the language used for the carve-out for the Coalition. While both chambers approved this carve-out, the Senate’s bill requires an additional step: the inclusion of a specific budget line item for $250,000 for the Coalition in the bill’s language.

While we anticipate that the Senate will take this necessary step, it is imperative not to take anything for granted until negotiations are complete. Therefore, we urge you to take action by reaching out to your legislator to:

  1. Thank them for the NPP funding, and ask them to stand firm on the amount during negotiations.
  2. Request the Senate to write in a budget line item of $250,000 for the Coalition. This critical funding is the lifeline that enables the Coalition to bolster our neighborhood preservation companies across the state, ensuring they continue to thrive and serve our communities.
